Meeting Saturday

After our first successful regular Tuesday meeting, let's make this Saturday great, too! See you all at the Villa on Saturday, March 19 at 2 pm.

January Meeting

Our January Meeting will be January 15, 2011, at 2 pm at the Villa Coffeehouse.

Next Meeting July 17

The next meeting will be this Saturday, July 17 at 2 pm. It is supposed to be a timed writing. I won't be there but I have a suggestion for the prompt for the timed writing I will post to our Group.

Last Meeting on June 19

At the last meeting, we had a special visitor. Kate's daughter, Sara, came to visit. She gave us a brief talk and answered questions about creative writing and her experience at college obtaining a degree in creative writing.

Topics covered included plot, character development, passive voice vs. active voice, and sentence structure. Her main point was "Go ahead and break the rules." Once you know the rules of writing, from sentence structure to story structure, then you can break them. Provided you break them for a reason, it will make your story more interesting.

Next Meeting May 15

The next meeting of the High Desert Writers Group will be May 15 at 2 pm at the Villa Coffeehouse in Idaho Falls.

It is a critique meeting. If you have a piece of writing you would like read and critiqued, please either post it in the comments here or send it to the Yahoo Group's files so others can read it before Saturday. See you at the Villa.

Meeting on Saturday

We are meeting on Saturday, March 20, at 2 pm at the Villa Coffeehouse. That's this coming Saturday. Elizabeth will be talking about writing poetry. Bring all your poetry questions.
